FAQs
Mechanics run diagnostic tests to determine and locate any problems the computer system, including sensors, in your vehicle may have logged. These problems may be related to different systems in your vehicle, such as engine performance, emission system, interior functions and drive train. The different codes tell the technicians which system or component parameters are out of range, but not necessarily the actual cause of the problem. At this point the technician will diagnose the cause of the problem.
Diagnostic tools also check your vehicles computer system for notifications from the manufacturer, as well as more information about the car’s history of repairs and tests. All of this information helps your technician do a faster and more efficient repairs when necessary.
Some people think you need to wait for an indicator light, such as a ‘check engine’ light to go off before having your vehicle tested. It’s generally recommended that you have your vehicle in for a diagnostic health check once a year.
You should also consider having any used car you are purchasing put through a diagnostic checkup so you can uncover any minor problems before you make your purchase.
A car diagnostics test usually takes about an hour or two. A health check takes about half an hour. If further inspections are necessary it may take longer. When you book your appointment with us, we will let you know how long your appointment should take.
